HUC REVIEW

17040211 Goose Creek – This huc was reviewed by Valdon Hancock.  Valdon explained why the Big Cottonwood Creek hydrography should be excluded from this huc and included with the Upper Snake-Rock huc instead.  According to the GNIS data, the Big Cottonwood Creek falls within both hucs, and should be included within the Upper Snake Rock huc.  This is an area that has been flagged and will be presented to the National folks on April 22nd.  There is also an area at the northern portion of the huc that previously fell within the Lake Walcott huc that should be included with the Goose Creek huc instead.  Al Rea asked if Goose Creek was contributing any flow to the Snake River.  Erv Cowley stated that this only happens in extreme water years.  He stated that there was a channel built that carried water from the Goose Creek over to Lake Murtaugh – sparing the Burley Area from possible flooding.  Due to agricultural landuse and low relief, the drainages are extremely difficult to follow and are not continuous. It is difficult to determine where they go and how to follow them in this area.  Valdon Hancock stated that he had done his best to try to determine what the original natural drainage in this area was.

Valdon pointed out one area that he delineated differently from the Utah linework, and that was a small area within the Goose Creek-Coal Banks Creek 6th field.  The Utah linework crosses some NHD hydro, and Valdon corrected it in the linework submitted to the TWG.

There were a couple 6th field labels that were misnamed.  The Sawmill Creek 6th will be renamed to be Sawmill Gulch, and the Cave Creek Reservoir will be renamed to Cave Gulch.

All three small areas that are currently 6th fields named Mill Creek-Summit Creek will be combined into one 6th field, and renamed Mill Creek.

The Land Creek-Mackey Wash 6th fields will be combined into one 6th field and named Land Creek.

The Oakley Valley 6th field will have a “00” extension, and will be renamed to Goose Creek Oakley Valley.

IDWR will number and make the above name changes, combine the above-mentioned 6th fields, then send the completed data to Valdon Hancock for approval.

This unit will be presented next month at the National Meeting to show an example of changes to forth field boundaries found in watershed delineation.

Upper Henry’s, Lower Henry’s, Teton, Palisades:  Lee Leffert was unable to attend this meeting, but the TWG went through and looked at some of the linework and attributes.  The following items were noted:

The 24k linework needs to be checked below the Juniper Sand Dunes area in the Lower Henry’s 5th field where the line goes across the dunes.

The boundary between the Salt and Palisades hucs needs to be checked against the Wyoming certified data.  There is an area that differs from the original USGS huc boundary, and Idaho would like to determine if this area has been certified or not.

One small change was noted between the South Fork Moody Creek and the Dry Canyon-Moody Creek 6th field huc boundary for the Teton Huc.

MISCELLANEOUS DISCUSSION

Linda Davis asked if there were any special hucs or areas that the group would like to present at the National meeting.  The following hucs/areas were identified:

Goose Creek
Salmon Falls
Birch Creek (with the INEEL area included)
Teton
Big Wood
The Snake River Plain/Lake Walcott/Craters area hucs – 17040209 and 17040206.
Northern Idaho area (Linda will help locate)
Bear River 4th field line below Bear Lake.

Linda asked if the TWG group would like to do an additional meeting the following day; Friday, April 23rd.  It was agreed that this would be a good idea, and this meeting was scheduled.  The following hucs were put on the agenda for that day:  Teton, Lower Henry’s, Palisades, Upper Henry’s, and the Middle Bear.

There was some discussion about the national meeting and what they would want to see from Idaho.  Al Rea stated that the first thing they would probably ask is for a status and completion date.  It was agreed that the most time-consuming portion of the process can be fixing the concept lines to match 24k accuracy, and possibly some funding sources can be identified.

Genna Ashley will work with Al Rea and get linework to him for the National Meeting that will be held at the USGS office in April.  This needs to be done at least a week prior to the meeting so that any bugs can be worked out.

ACTION ITEMS:

Genna Ashley will make the changes that have been identified on the Goose Creek huc and forward those changes to Valdon Hancock.

Sandra Thiel will check the boundary line at the southern portion of the Juniper Sand Dunes huc within the Lower Henry’s 5th field huc.

The Wyoming certified data will be checked against our boundary between the Palisades and Salt hucs.

Genna Ashley will work with Al Rea to set up for the April watershed meeting that will be held at the USGS office in Boise.
