HUC REVIEW
Willow 17040205 – The TWG reviewed this huc. There was considerable discussion regarding how to split up the large 5th field area at Gray’s Lake. The group delineated a line south of Eagle Creek. For specific line placement, please see shapefile "TWG20060628.shp". This will create three 6th fields for the 5th, named Little Valley Creek, Bridge Creek, and Gravel Creek, and keep them within the size criteria. Also, while reviewing the Idaho Falls huc, the group discovered that the lower portion of Willow Creek has historically been included with the Idaho Falls 4th field huc. The 4th field boundary line will be changed to include the Idaho Falls portion of Willow Creek and South Fork Willow Creek with the Willow Creek huc. North Fork Willow Creek will remain with the Idaho Falls huc to avoid having two pour points. Some of the Willow Creek 6th field names will change: Willow Creek-Mill Creek will become Upper Willow Creek, Willow Creek Outlet will become Middle Willow Creek, and the new area that was added from the Idaho Falls area will become Lower Willow Creek. Genna Ashley will make these changes, populate the required attributes, and make the linework 24k compliant. When these changes are complete, this huc will be considered draft approved.
Idaho Falls 17040201 – The TWG group reviewed this huc. The group discovered that the lower portion of Willow Creek has historically been included with the Idaho Falls 4th field huc. The 4th field boundary line will be changed to include the Idaho Falls portion of Willow Creek and South Fork Willow Creek with the Willow Creek huc. North Fork Willow Creek will remain with the Idaho Falls huc, to avoid having two pour points. Also, The group discussed the 4th field name of Idaho Falls. Historically, the FALLS area of the Idaho Falls huc was contained within this 4th field hydrologic unit, thus giving the name Idaho Falls. With the new 5th and 6th field delineation effort, the surrounding hucs have been delineated to more accurately reflect the hydrologic features, and the Falls area is now contained within the American Falls hydrologic unit. The TWG group will suggest that the 4th field name be changed to Snake River-Dry Bed, which more accurately reflects the predominant named features within this hydrologic unit. Gene Dana draft delineated some of the 5th and 6th field areas on the paper map, and Genna Ashley will make these delineations. For specific line placement, see shapefile "TWG20060628". Genna Ashley will bring this huc back in August for a continuing review.
Upper Snake Rock 17040212 – The TWG group reviewed this huc. The group looked at the area south of Bliss, and made some changes, moving the delineation line from the Snake River to the higher ridgeline. For exact line placement, refer to shapefile "Meetingedits.shp", by Leigh Bailey at Payette NF. Leigh Bailey has been working on this huc; will make these changes, and has also made the changes identified during the May meeting. She will also populate the 5th and 6th field names and numbers, where available. Leigh will make these changes and give the huc a final QC, then send it to Genna Ashley for incorporation. After these changes have been made, this huc will be considered draft approved.
MISCELLANEOUS DISCUSSION
Steve Garcia presented a graphic of the 4th field boundary linework he is working on. Steve has completed most of the border hucs, with the exception of Salmon Falls, which falls within the BLM stewardship. Steve is coordinating this work with Karen Hanson, and will send the new linework to Genna Ashley, and she will incorporate it into the master watershed coverage.
USGS reports that Kenny Legleiter has accepted another position and is moving on from the watershed delineation project. Genna Ashley will contact either Karen Hanson or Mike Laitta and ask about the status of the national coordinator, and if there is someone else who should be on the Idaho contact list.
There was some discussion regarding watershed-editing techniques with ArcMap. Genna Ashley will send Leigh Bailey the .rul file she uses in ArcMap to create topology from lines, and the steps involved to create a polygon topology from lines and labels.
ACTION ITEMS:
Genna Ashley will work on the Willow hydrologic unit, which includes changing the 4th field boundary line between Willow and Idaho Falls. Genna will send Steve Garcia the updated version of the 4th field boundary data.
Genna Ashley will work on the Idaho Falls hydrologic unit, and bring it back for a continuing review in August.
Leigh Bailey will work on the Upper Snake Rock hydrologic unit, and send the updates to Genna Ashley. Genna Ashley will incorporate Leigh’s changes into the master watershed dataset.
Steve Garcia will send Genna Ashley the updated version of the 4th field boundary linework. Genna Ashley will incorporate this data into the master watershed dataset.
Genna Ashley will send Leigh Bailey the .rul file she uses in ArcMap to create topology from lines, and the steps involved to create a polygon topology from lines and labels.
