 HUC REVIEW

Raft River 17040210 – The TWG group reviewed this unit with Valdon Hancock, Sawtooth National Forest.  Due to network problems, NetMeeting was unavailable for this meeting, but Valdon worked with the TWG group via telephone connection only.  This huc is shared by Utah, which has certified linework.  It was decided to keep the Utah linework where possible, and change the Idaho linework minimally to make it more hydrologically correct, per Valdon’s suggestions.  After the changes have been made by Idaho, they will be sent to Utah for review.

Idaho has split the Utah 6th field Circle Creek-Raft River into two 6th’s – Circle Creek-Raft River and Imigrant Canyon-Raft River, in order to keep a pure 6th (Circle Creek) at 17,200 acres.

At Valdon’s suggestion, the TWG broke Grape Creek out as a pure 6th field (see shapefile “TWG20051028.shp”.  Also, Grape Creek should be in the same 5th field as Edwards Creek, as they come down the same valley, so this 6th field unit will become part of the Cottonwood Creek 5th field unit.

The Johnson Creek and George Creek 6th field units should hydrologically be linked together.  The Johnson Creek 6th field unit will be moved into the George Creek-Raft River 5th field unit.

Valdon moved Barnes Creek 6th into the Clear Creek 6th.  The NAIP, and 949 aerial photography shows Barnes Creek and Holt Creek joining up approximately 6 miles before Raft River.

The 5th field name Sandrock Canyon-Meadow Creek will be renamed to Meadow Creek

The 5th field name Johnson Creek-Raft River will be renamed Wildcat Creek-Raft River

The 5th field name George Creek-Raft River will be renamed Edwards Creek-Raft River

The Monument Canyon 6th field will be combined with a portion of the Sandrock Canyon 6th field unit.  For specific line placement, see shapefile “TWG20051028.shp”.  The where these would meet Raft River was cleaned up.

The TWG re-sectioned portions of the 6th field Sublett Creek into different 5th and 6th field units.  Upper and Lower Sublett Creek, Warm Creek and Shirley Creek will now comprise a 5th field.  For specific line placement, see shapefile “TWG20051028.shp”.

The leftover 6th field portion of the old “Lower Sublett Creek” (which isn’t actually Sublett Creek) will be grouped into the Junction Creek 5th field, along with the Calder Creek and Eagle Point 6th field units.  This will create a very large 6th field unit, called Idahohome-Raft River.  A justification will be written for this area.

Poison Hollow-Echo Hollow 6th field will be renamed Echo Hollow.  The confluence was cleaned up in this unit.

ACTION ITEMS:

Genna Ashley will make the changes on the Raft River hydrologic unit and send the edits to Valdon Hancock for approval.

 MISCELLANEOUS DISCUSSION

Sandra Thiel and Gene Dana talked about the NHD progress.  There are only 2 remaining hucs, and they are very close to completion.  Sandra also went over some issues that she encountered when processing NHD for the Middle Fork Payette hydrologic unit.  The NHD lines need to fall within the new 4th, 5th, and 6th field boundary lines and the watershed linework should be snapped to the NHD at the confluences.
