Idaho Watershed Boundary Dataset (WBD) 5th and 6th Field Delineation Project
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

COMMENT OPPORTUNITY

The WBD State Steward Workgroup, a multi-state group of WBD coordinators, has requested a review of the draft document -

"WBD Roles Document" - DRAFT 20080702

These issue papers were written to highlight concerns of the user community from across the nation. Following the recent decision by the USGS and NRCS to integrate the NHD and WBD into a single geodatabase design and stewardship model, our small WBD workgroup has drafted a document that addresses the governance and stewardship roles for the integrated dataset. We have shared this draft with the NHD management team and now want to share it with the broader NHD and WBD stewardship communities.  PLEASE PROVIDE COMMENTS BY JULY 31, 2008 to:

genna.ashley@idwr.idaho.gov

Thank you in advance for your participation!!

FINAL DRAFT WBD DATASET REVIEW
IN PROGRESS

The Idaho Department of Water Resources (IDWR) and Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS), in cooperation with various state and local agencies have produced a statewide Watershed Boundary Dataset (WBD) for 5th and 6th field watersheds for the State of Idaho.

These 5th and 6th field boundaries were created using the
USGS Interagency Guideline on Delineation of Watershed and Subwatershed Hydrologic Unit Boundaries standards, latest version dated March 1, 2002.  Coordination and edge-matching was completed with surrounding states.  In addition, some of the 4th field boundaries have also been corrected to more accurately reflect drainage patterns.

Each Hydrologic Unit Boundary has been assigned a steward or stewards who have coordinated with surrounding states to create draft fourth, fifth, and sixth field watershed lines. Statewide 24k DRG and hydrography data was utilized, along with NED Shaded Relief and NAIP aerial photos to determine boundary lines. Polygons have been attributed with new names and nesting watershed numbers pursuant to the watershed standards.

Idaho has assembled the final draft statewide WBD dataset, ready to submit for certification.  Please take a moment to download this dataset and review your area(s) of interest.  This will be your last opportunity to submit changes before the data is sent for certification.  Please send all change requests to Genna Ashley-Poulson at the Idaho Department of Water Resources no later than August 15, 2008.

Final certified data will be incorporated into the National Watershed Boundary Dataset, available in both coverage and shapefile formats, using ArcInfo and ArcView software.  Draft lines, including linework for surrounding states, can be viewed on an Arc/IMS watershed server at maps.idwr.idaho.gov/watersheds or downloaded at http://www.idwr.idaho.gov/gisdata/new%20data%20download/watersheds.htm
