Ground Water Levels Support Idaho Department of Water Resources |
Ground Water LevelsThe IDWR Hydrology Section maintains a database of information on ground-water levels in Idaho. The IDWR database, known as the Well_Log, uses data gathered by a number of sources. Major sources of data are measurements taken by the U.S.Geological Survey, IDWR contractors, IDWR staff, and the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation. The Hydrology Section analyzes these data to determine regional ground-water level trends. These trends are used to evaluate ground-water availability for new water uses, and to identify areas with declining ground-water levels that may need administrative action, such as designation as a ground-water management area or critical ground-water area. If you would like to use Email to request information about a specific area, please select GWlevels.
Our goal is to respond to all requests at no charge to you for the service. However, if you have made an extensive or complicated request that requires us to do extensive computer research, document development or printing that entails a cost, we will let you know in advance so you can decide if you want us to continue. Currently, the IDWR has a cooperative program with the USGS to measure depth to water in approximately 360 wells throughout the state. Measurements are made on frequencies ranging from semi-annual to monthly. The Treasure Valley Hydrologic Project(TVHP) in cooperation with the USGS provides funds to measure another 40 wells in the Treasure Valley on a monthly basis. IDWR has a contract with an engineering firm to measure another 49 wells on a monthly basis. IDWR staff measures approximately 110 total wells on a semi-annual or monthly basis. The USBR measures 70 wells on a semi-annual or monthly basis in the Eastern Snake River Plain. This makes a total of more than 600 monitoring wells in Idaho measured on a regular basis. Recent mass measurement data are also available for the Treasure Valley. The TVHP in cooperation with the USGS measured approximately 300 wells in the spring and fall of 1996 and 1998. Current plans are to repeat this in the year 2000. |
